The missions are not great as far as scripting and if you want a very well planned story line you should look to the movie that the game is based upon. At long range there are some problems like disappearing people and wall joints that are visible but the graphics do pretty well for all of that. The size of some of the maps and how well the graphics hold up on them. That is one of the first impressions of the game for me. The Black Hawk Down part of the game has 20 missions in maps that are large. The game play is pretty good and the story line falls short but the selection of weapons and how many missions are included make up for any short comings. The graphics on this game are great, not because I have a decent computer but due to the game engine. But like all really good shooter games you don’t need a story line to have a good game. They have broken up the major portions of the rescue into some of the missions for the story line. The story line is loosely based upon the rescue and a few of the missions actually follow that. This one is based on the great movie by Jerry Bruckheimer, Black Hawk Down. The games have been from mediocre to great and I have not regretted ever buying one of the games. They have had four previous versions and have always included the mission editor.

Even better is when you get the game and it has the mission editor so that I can make missions and play ones others have made.įor that reason alone I have always liked the Delta Force line of PC games. I saw one guy running circles on a truck bed, and another warping onto the surface of every piece of real estate he came across.I love first person shooters, the better the action, the more I love it. Unfortunately, NPCs do have one thing in common: they're not all that smart. This makes you think before you shoot, because the character running toward you could just be a simple farmer in the wrong place at the wrong time. Something subtle that I respect in Black Hawk Down is that your enemies look a lot like harmless civilians.

If you get too frustrated, the Xbox version lets you pick from a number of missions at any time - whereas PS2 makes you do them all in order. You also bite it if your team buys the farm. I found myself dying often, not because of shoddy tactics, but because I got jacked by baddies from out of nowhere. A mission shouldn't take more than 15 minutes or so if played correctly, but allow me to point out the first sentence of this paragraph yet again. If you don't use them, you'll have to restart every time you die. On Xbox, you have a set amount of save slots per mission. It happens so much, I'll say it again: it's easy to die in Black Hawk Down. Why did "Hold your fire" show up during a firefight? If I were Fox News, I'd blame those darn liberals. The coolness of barking orders is negated by the fact that your commands inexplicably change even when you're not hitting the "talk" button.

While it's possible to give them some commands, I preferred to let them hang back like an entourage. You rarely go anywhere without your trusty crew. The gameplay won't surprise any of you, though some of the most fun involves the track-shooting portions where you're riding in a vehicle and firing at moving targets. They're a little more humanitarian than you're used to - escorting aid packages and destroying weapons caches - but worry not because you still get to bust several caps. This game's single-player campaign features 16 missions. After you feel a little more cultured, then it's time to shoot people in the face.

Both the instruction manual and the FMV scenes enlighten you on the events leading up to this reality-based, in-game conflict. Whereas most shooters just get right to killing in the name, Black Hawk Down drops some history on you. military's elite were in Somalia to help the battered African country. While most of us were feathering out our mullets and listening to "Enter Sandman," the U.S. But, while Delta Force: Black Hawk Down claims it "leaves no man behind," it also will leave most gamers disappointed. At least this one takes the road less traveled - the road through Somalia in the early '90s. Adding more weight to our packs, Novalogic and Climax pile on yet another team-leaning military FPS. If our trigger fingers itched as much as game publishers think they do, we'd have rubbed them to the bone by now.
