Do you remember all the guys that ruined their bikes using STP additive? Their clutches kept slipping even after many oil changes. I must use motorcycle oil to lubricate the five speed transmission, no choice. The primary chain on my motorcycle is in the same crank case as the transmission, clutch, pistons, valves and cams. Does Amsoil make EP Grease for the carrier bearing? Except that there is clean synthetic in it now, I may as well wait for winter to change it. There is no reason for me not to use Amsoil Severe Gear in the shaft final drive. We are talking four different types of oil and two major types of motorcycles. The result is noticible, smother quieter operation, cleaner cooler oil, dirtier filter and less consumption. I'm using the Amsoil as an additive to MA rated oil. I'm thinking this applies If you have swaped out from dino oil to excluslively Amsoil synthetic motorcycle oil. You can not expect the qualities, extended lubrication and extended change intervals with contaminated oil. More specifically car oil will contaminate Amsoil. Oil Doc also said: "You can not top off Amsoil with (cheap brand X) oil". The extreem pressure lubrication of Amsoil Motorcycle oil (GL1, MA ratings) takes care of those cam lobes, shims, wet clutch and gears.

I don't like the ammonia smell of Rotella detergent. The only oil that specifically addresses that is Rotella. My motorcycle has "flat tappets" (they are actually flat shims over buckets) This is very comon in motorcycle engines and the older engines that I care for. Amsoil no longer makes the oil filter for my motorcycle. I want to get as much "dirt" out as I can. I'm not going for the extended oil change intervals. "Yes, you can top off with Amsoil." "It won't hurt a thing." I am going after the cleaning and oil seal additives in Amsoil. I couldn't wait, so I called OilDoc on the telephone. I already put that question to the forum. But, justifiably so with the transmission already.

Is it wise to mix dino oil and Amsoil? Can I top off with Amsoil? Or should I go all Amsoil? I think it's the 20-50w motor oil, not 100% certain. It seemed like a good time to personally validate some of the claims I have seen. Of course I thought of Doc when I was presented the product at the shop. It appears the Amsoil Severe Gear did what I was told it would do and freed up my transmission.

I was told that there was a build up in the tranny and that when I pulled the clutch in and the tranny was supposed to free wheel, there was too much friction and it was spinning too slow to do what it had to do. Well, it didn't fix it really, it freed it up it seems. The transmission works right again and it was not a case of X was broken and we fixed it.Ĭhanging lubricants fixed my transmission. There was no doubt right off that something was different. Off I went on my way and put a few hundred miles on the bike. I have had George work on my bike before and I trust his judgment and workmanship, however, I'm used to X is broke and that's the repair. I sent it there with a few complaints and after looking into the situation and making some minor adjustments, changing the lubricant I had in there seemed to be the biggest gain I would realize to stop the issues I was complaining about according to George.
